Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What's the big idea behind Spacemark?
A. In the same way that you can bookmark a web page on the internet so you can easily find the information on it when you need it later, we think you should be able to 'Spacemark' places too, so you don't forget them and can easily get information about them later - either on the web or on your mobile when you're out and about.
Q. Is it free to use?
A. Yes, we won't charge you anything to use Spacemark on web or mobile - but your mobile operator might charge you their standard mobile internet browsing rates when you use it on your mobile.
Q. Ok, so how do I Spacemark a place?
A. Just enter the name and address of a place using the 'add place' tab and it's stored for you to find later, whenever you need it. It could be the address of a business meeting or a kid's party, the name and address of a restaurant you've heard about, or even the address of your holiday cottage or places you want to visit whilst you're away.
Q. Is there a quick way to Spacemark places I find on other websites?
A. Absolutely, once you've downloaded the Spacemark toolbar all you have to do is highlight on any web page an address you want to store, click the 'add place' button and we'll do the rest.
Q. Great, so once I've created some Spacemarks how do I go back to them?
A. Click on the 'home' tab on the spacemark.com website and you'll see the dashboard with the Spacemarks you've created organised into groups. You can also see the same Spacemarks on your mobile phone.
Q. What information do I get for each Spacemark?
A. We try and offer as much information as we can about each place you Spacemark - which we call a "rich experience of place". Most businesses will have a name, address and phone number and we can also provide a brief description and photo for many street facing businesses in towns and cities. We try to offer specialist information about popular categories of businesses such as hotels and venues e.g. what's on.
Q. I often want to find a business when I'm out and about - can I do that?
A. Yes, whilst Spacemark lets you use all sorts of sources of local information in the web that can lead to you Spacemarking a place, once you're out and about we think the Spacemark mobile service is the best place to search for and discover businesses that can meet your needs. Whether you want to find a pub to have a drink before you meet at a restaurant you've Spacemarked, or just to find the nearest fast food joint, Spacemark can give you all the information you need.
Q. Maps and directions are really useful - do I have to print those out?
A. Absolutely not - a key function of Spacemark is the ability for you to see all your Spacemarks on your mobile phone. In addition to all the details you can see on the web, we also offer special 'made for mobile' maps and directions to help you find your way there. Many people just use Spacemark as a means of saving places they plan to visit and then using Spacemark on their mobile as a means of finding their way.
Q. I've already got a personal navigation system - can I use that instead?
A. Yes you can, using the 'Sat-Nav' tab you can export your Spacemarks to your preferred personal navigation system. We are also planning to work with personal navigation providers so that you can get access to your Spacemarks from your preferred system, without any need for exporting them at all.
Q. I'd like to send Spacemarks to my friends and colleagues to arrange meetings. Can I do that too?
A. Yes, this is another key feature of Spacemark - the ability to send places from one person to another, for free. You can do this in any combination of web to email, web to mobile or even mobile to mobile. You can make life easier for your friends and colleagues by sending them Spacemarks for places where you plan to meet - so they can get details and maps and directions without a call or text from you.
Q. Can I make comments about places for myself and for others?
A. You certainly can, you can add additional information yourself to any Spacemark either when you create it or at a later stage. You can also choose whether this information is private to you, or available for anyone to see.
Q. I'm confused about the login process. Do I use a username, mobile number or email address?
A. The username is probably the best one to use, but if your account already has a mobile number and/or email address assigned to it (for example you may have already used Spacemark on your mobile) you can use those instead.
Q. I've seen another user's comment which is defamatory, obscene, offensive, abusive or otherwise inappropriate, what do I do?
A. If you see an inappropriate comment by another user, then click on the 'warning triangle' symbol next to the comment and you can alert us to its presence. We will review it and take appropriate steps, for example removing the offending comments. However, please do not use this if you simply disagree with another user's opinions - instead, why not add a comment of your own saying what you think?
